NEXT, MARTA, and WABE Present: ‘The NEXT Movement’ Film Premiere
The event is finished.
Join us on Tuesday, November 21, for an extraordinary evening as NEXT, MARTA, and WABE proudly present the innovative concert film series – “The NEXT Movement: Season 1.”
Immerse yourself in the artistry of five of Atlanta’s rising art stars: self-taught visual artist Melissa A. Mitchell, Atlanta’s own poet griot, Jon Goode; nationally-renowned musician CC Sunchild, Atlanta’s premier cellist Okorie ‘OkCello’ Johnson, and award-winning HBO Def Jam poet Carlos Andres Gomez – and be among the first to experience their captivating performances on a specially commissioned MARTA railcar!
This event is much more than just a film screening; it’s an interactive dialogue with the audience, artists, filmmakers — and you. It’s also the heart of a far-reaching multiplatform arts and social action campaign launched in 2022 by NEXT and Artbound, MARTA’s public arts program. Through poetry, music, and visual art, “The NEXT Movement” aims to amplify the voices of Atlanta’s leading arts activists to address our community’s post-pandemic dreams and challenges, while harnessing the connective power of mass transit to ignite meaningful conversations.
The film will have its national premiere on WABE and the PBS PASSPORT platform in late November with this screening serving as the official, exclusive debut. The film will be followed with a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring the film’s stars, filmmakers, and some of the city’s leading art activists, along with live performances.
Don’t miss this unique and interactive event on Tuesday, November 21, from 7 – 9:30 p.m. at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, 100 Ivan Allen Jr Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA 30313. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Tickets are FREE, but space is limited, so reserve your spot today! Convenient parking is available at the nearby World of Coca-Cola or Georgia Aquarium garages.
“The NEXT Movement” film series is proudly presented by NEXT ATL in partnership with MARTA Artbound. It is curated by P. Faith Carmichael and filmed in partnership with Las Palmas Studios and Overnightish Films.
